Creating Carbon Roots Gardens for a Greener Future

Join our community initiative to develop gardens designed to absorb carbon and combat climate change. Together, we can make a difference one garden at a time.

Our Mission

Creating a network of carbon-absorbing gardens

Carbon Roots is dedicated to combating climate change through the creation of carbon sink gardens in communities across the country. Our gardens are specifically designed to maximize carbon absorption, helping to reduce greenhouse gases in our atmosphere.

Through education, community engagement, and hands-on projects, we're building a movement of gardeners committed to making a positive impact on our environment. Join us in our mission to create a greener, more sustainable future for all.

About Carbon Roots

Our story and vision

Community garden

Carbon Roots began in 2023 when a group of environmentally conscious gardeners recognized the potential of gardens to combat climate change. What started as a small community project has grown into a nationwide movement.

Our team consists of gardening enthusiasts, environmental scientists, and community organizers united by a common goal: to harness the power of gardens to absorb carbon dioxide and reduce the effects of climate change.

We believe that small, local actions can lead to significant global impact. By creating a network of carbon gardens across the country, we're building a greener future one garden at a time.

What Our Community Says

Hear from those who have joined our initiative

"The student volunteers that have come to our garden to help us grow have been a huge blessing. Although our garden space is quite large, it is in its infancy. We do not use any synthetic chemicals to combat weeds or pests so we rely on humankind. Sheer will power and sweat is what is transforming a lot of invasive species into a haven of food, medicine, and wildlife habitat slowly but surely. The students have already helped to clear weeds, build compost rich beds and walkable pathways, and plant vegetables, fruits, herbs, and native wildflowers. We will continue to be grateful for any help we can get turning our blank slate into a food forest."

Lori Garton

"It was a pleasure working with Shivali and her Carbon Roots team. Shivali's Carbon Sink Garden concept was a natural fit with our vision of Jackson Woods as a community park focused on Nature, Education & the Arts, and we immediately jumped at the opportunity to partner. Carbon Roots led fundraising efforts to help us purchase the plants, and recruited a volunteer crew who worked hard to plant and mulch the garden. The Carbon Sink Garden sign now joins our other informational signs scattered around the park, informing the park's casual visitors, local students and summer campers about the garden's carbon storage benefits. We look forward to seeing the garden evolve as the plants grow and mature."

"I thought it was really well put together! All of the instruction was helpful and you did a good job of disseminating the tasks between all of the volunteers!"
