About Carbon Roots

Carbon Roots was founded by Shivali Sethi, a student at High Technology High School. Shivali discovered her passion for environmental science after conducting research on how microplastic can impact the average garden plant. After brainstorming ways to help her community become green, she came to her idea. She wanted to help reduce Monmouth County’s carbon footprint. Her organization, Carbon Roots, aims to make Monmouth County greener, one carbon sink garden at a time. Carbon Roots emphasizes that impact is not only achieved at the town level; one person can also make a difference.

The Benefits of a Carbon Sink Garden

Reduces excess carbon in the atmosphere

A carbon sink garden is created to absorb as much carbon as possible. Carbon emissions are harmful for our atmosphere and a carbon sink garden can help reduce them.

Brings the community together

Starting a garden can bring together town residents. They can help plant the garden and maintain it year round. Doing this will allow them to form a community while helping the garden grow.

Teaches town residents about sustainable gardening

Building a carbon sink garden will inform residents on how to start their own sustainable gardens. You may start with one carbon sink garden, but you could end with more.
